Sunway College opened its doors to students in 1987 when our founder, Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Dr Jeffrey Cheah, AO decided to foray into the field of private higher education. Within a short span of time, Sunway College became a popular household name by providing high quality twinning and credit transfer programmes. Other than being one of the pioneers of twinning and transfer programmes, Sunway College has offered Malaysian students a wide range of opportunities to obtain well-recognised qualifications from foreign universities such as in the UK, USA, Canada, Australia, etc. As a result of quality provision and a good track record of academic results, Sunway College was upgraded to Sunway University College in 2004.
Unsurprisingly, Sunway University College was given a Tier-5 rating- “Excellent” in its first-ever quality rating review by ‘SETARA’, a rigorous assessment and evaluation methodology to promote overall institutional excellence by the Malaysian Ministry of Higher Education. With its continuous excellent performance and contribution towards the development of the nation’s workforce, Sunway University College achieved University status within 2 years and became Sunway University.
As private universities in Malaysia could only offer their own home-grown programmes, Sunway College (Kuala Lumpur) was thus established to continue offering its well-known Pre-University programmes, Professional Accountancy programmes as well as Twinning Programmes. Certificate, Foundation and Diploma programmes are also offered to provide more pathways for students to pursue their tertiary education or towards their chosen career path.
Since its establishment, Sunway College (KL) has been awarded the highest Six-Star rating, in the Malaysian Quality Evaluation System for Private Colleges (MyQUEST), placing it as a leading college in providing top-notch quality education.
To further improve total customer satisfaction and continual quality improvement, Sunway College (KL) achieved the ISO 9001:2008 Quality Management Systems certification in 2014 and upgraded it to ISO 9001:2015 Qualification Management Systems certification in 2017.
In 2019, Sunway College (KL) was also the biggest winner with 5 awards at the Sin Chew Education Awards. One of the recognitions given was the “Outstanding Educational Institutions for Private Universities or Colleges” award.

The college utilizes a holistic teaching and learning approach by providing students with an all-round experience whether within or outside the classroom. Provision of comprehensive teaching and learning resources, guest lectures, events, as well as student support, are also a top priority to provide an unforgettable student experience.
Other than the Bandar Sunway campus, Sunway College (KL) has launched a new 3,500-student capacity extended premise in the integrated township of Sunway Velocity, Kuala Lumpur in 2019. Sunway College has also established colleges in Johor Bahru, Ipoh and Kuching to provide quality higher education to students in different parts of Malaysia.
